Being a cardiologist for the past 12 years, I observed the trend of cardiovascular diseases how it is growing and was wondering how to prevent those diseases. We are just treating with medicines, but still, these diseases keep progressing. I was overweight, with knee pain and a strong family history coronary artery disease and high cholesterols. My husband and sons were obese, so I decided to start the whole food plant-based diet to reduce my weight so that I can influence my family.
I started in January, 2019 losing an average 4-5 pounds per month. In total I lost 47 pounds. Until March, 2020 I was working as a physician in Phnompenh (Cambodia), because of COVID I got stuck in Bangkok where my husband works. At that time my weight was around 139 pounds. It was not easy to reduce from that point. Exactly at that time, I was started digging deep into nutrition studies and came across the Nutritarian diet. It is wonderful. I followed weight loss meal plans that worked very well. Staying at home, I lost another 14 pounds in the past four months.
My husband started following the diet and in the first month he lost 7-8 pounds. It was our 25th wedding anniversary. On April 14th we were supposed to travel to New York for a grand celebration, but we were stuck in Bangkok. We celebrated it virtually on Zoom with all our near and dear family members. To my surprise, all of them were appreciating us and were asking me how come you look so young and beautiful. They started asking me for my secret.
I started utilizing the COVID time fruitfully by teaching about this diet and the benefits to my family and friends. Within a few weeks they are also seeing great results. I stopped my husband’s blood pressure pills, my both sons BMI come down to 23. So, the Nutritarian diet not only transformed me and my family, but also my friends too. Now I am more confident to treat my patients. I am very greatful to Dr. Fuhrman for his valuable research and information.
