Many individuals who follow the Nutritarian diet write to Dr. Fuhrman about their success. Keep in mind that results vary from person to person. As always, consult your physician if you have a medical history and/or condition that may warrant individual recommendations.
When Rocky's doctor prescribed medication for his diabetes, his wife searched for alternatives and found the Nutritarian diet style; now he no longer needs medication
Despite eating what I thought was a healthy diet, my A1C was continually rising over a period of two years Finally, I went for an annual physical and my doctor told me I was in the diabetic range and had no choice but to put me on medication. He assured me that Metformin was a safe med and I would be on a low dose. So I stopped at the pharmacy on my way home and filled the prescription (after all, who am I to question my doctor). When I arrived home and told my wife, she immediately got on the computer and said "you are not going on meds yet." My wife is a Ph.D. so she knows how to conduct research and how to separate scientifically sound research from information not based on science. She recited the scary side effects and long term implications of meds and said she would find another way.
She researched and found Dr. Fuhrman's Nutritarian diet and demanded a conference with my doctor. She made the case for letting us try Dr. Fuhrman's eating plan before starting the meds. At first he resisted but finally agreed to give us three months We agreed that if my A1C did not drop to below 7.0 (from 7.9) I would go on the meds.
Three months later I lost 20 pounds my A1C was 6.7; and at my last check it was 6.0. My doctor was amazed and asked us for the eating plan.
Results may vary.
