Many individuals who follow the Nutritarian diet write to Dr. Fuhrman about their success. Keep in mind that results vary from person to person. As always, consult your physician if you have a medical history and/or condition that may warrant individual recommendations.

Lana's Story

Since a newborn Lana always weighed more than her peers until she found Eat To Live and lost 58 pounds

I am 49 years old and have unsuccessfully tried to lose weight for the past 38 years.  After reading Dr. Fuhrman's book and applying his principles to my diet, I went from 204 pounds to 191 in just two months. I no longer have high blood pressure, and my blood glucose levels are now normal. I owe my success to eating a salad for both breakfast and lunch, and having a very light dinner.  My salads mainly consist of shredded cabbage, shredded broccoli, garbanzo beans, and one ounce of walnuts, a juiced lemon and apple cider vinegar for the dressing.

I do aerobic exercises such as treadmill as well as weight training at least five days a week.  My parents originally recommended that I read Dr. Fuhrman's book, and both follow his advice as well. They too have lost weight.  Dr. Fuhrman must truly be blessed by God!

I began life as a 10 pound plus newborn and always was way above a normal childhood weight.  When I took my college physical I was put on blood pressure medication.  I attempted to lose weight since I was 12 years old when I joined my first weight loss club. I was the only child in the club. Over the last 40 plus years, I've lost various amounts of weight on many different diets with as much as 30 pounds a couple times. When I read Eat to Live in July of 2012, I weighed 275 pounds.  I was 53 years old and was on three different medications for high blood pressure. My fasting blood sugar readings were coming in a few points over where they should be, and my triglycerides and cholesterol were also a bit elevated.

Within three months of starting my Nutritarian lifestyle, I lost over 25 pounds and my blood sugar and cholesterol were in healthy ranges and my triglycerides had dropped 50 points. The doctor allowed me to go off of one of the blood pressure medications at that point. Just prior to Christmas 2012, I celebrated losing over 50 pounds and treated myself to buying a Vitamix blender. Even over the holidays I still lost a few more pounds, and even though my mother died this month, I have been able to continue my journey, soon to be a sixty-pound victory. I have since dropped half of another blood pressure medication.

I love all the tremendous health benefits of the food I now consume. I can choose to make the plan as simple as just eating fresh and cooked vegetables and fruits along with a few beans every day. Or, as I do every few days, I find a recipe (from Dr. Fuhrman's book or website, or from one of many other great sources of vegetarian dishes) that includes these ingredients, and get creative. I've even learned how to work with a recipe that may include less healthy ingredients like sugar or oil, and "Fuhrmanate" it. I am so excited about the plan that I now love to study about nutrition. I really enjoy challenging myself to figure out how to pack the most nutrition into the least number of calories.

Now below 220 pounds, I am the lowest weight my husband of 25 years has ever known me. He's a chef, and is now pleased about having fruit and greens smoothies with me. Seeing my excitement and commitment grow, he is now willing to cook and eat Nutritarian meals with me. He even promotes the book and the eating plan to others, and is looking for ways to incorporate this food style into his private chef work.

I could go on and on, and sometimes probably overdo it when I talk to friends and family about the wonderful opportunity for health that Dr. Fuhrman's plan offers. So that's enough for now. Who would have thought that I would be sitting here writing this, especially as I munch on a plate of raw veggies? Let's Fuhrmanate and vegicate the world!
