Many individuals who follow the Nutritarian diet write to Dr. Fuhrman about their success. Keep in mind that results vary from person to person. As always, consult your physician if you have a medical history and/or condition that may warrant individual recommendations.
Robert decided he no longer wanted to be dependent on pills all his life, lost 67 pounds, feels great and is free of medications
I started the diet because I had a friend who talked of the benefits of eating better and I bought The End of Diabetes book. I had elevated blood sugar levels. I also was overweight with high cholesterol, high triglycerides; things were not going in the right direction. I thought I would either change what I ate and get better or eat the usual recommended diet and be dependent on pills for the rest of a reduced life. I had tried to eat reduced portions and also a low carb diet. Neither worked to make anything better.
My "aha moment" was having a physical and getting speech from my doctor then being handed prescriptions for medication, which I never filled.
The first week on the diet plan was tough. I slept a lot and had headaches. After I had the routine down, it was really easy. I lost 25 pounds the first six weeks and 22 pounds the second six weeks. I am now down a total of 65 pounds with perhaps an additional five pounds to reach my goal.
I feel fabulous; better than I have felt in 25 years. I have a lot more energy. I sleep better. My labs are all in the ideal range now. My blood pressure is as well. I still find it hard to always eat right, especially on some social occasions and going out to eat at some places. But even if I don't eat the best I go right back to eating well.
Thank you.
