Many individuals who follow the Nutritarian diet write to Dr. Fuhrman about their success. Keep in mind that results vary from person to person. As always, consult your physician if you have a medical history and/or condition that may warrant individual recommendations.
John lost 30 pounds and is determined to avoid an early death and the heart problems common in his family
I had to break the chain of events to where I was headed. My father died of an aortic aneurysm and my mother had a heart attack .A brother died of heart disease, my other brother had quad bypass, and my two sisters have cholesterol through the roof. So there is a history of heart problems in my family.
After learning what Dr. Fuhrman teaches, and looking back through the years, my family's diet caused all of their health problems, as well as their deaths. Growing up, in my home, my mother fried everything, hardly any greens, all kinds of meat, ice cream and pies, and all sorts of sweets. Before I started the Nutritarian way of eating, I was headed for something bad in the way of health. I work for Amtrak as a bridge inspector, and my job consists of watching contractors, and giving job safety briefings. The hours are sometimes very long, and the only thing that you want to do is eat, and it was all the Standard American Diet, (junk food). I was eating my way to my grave, and drinking coffee around the clock, and my sleep was whenever I could get it.
I began to get constant headaches, and was tired all the time. I was also seeing more and more of my co-workers getting prostate cancer and by-passes like they were going out of style. I got tired of feeling rundown, and went to the bookstore and found Eat To Live. I read it cover to cover. I also read Eat For Health. I decided to go for it cold turkey. I gave up everything and ate a lot of greens. I started drinking green smoothies and eating lots of fresh produce following Dr. Fuhrman's diet.
I started in December 2010. My wife started with me. So many people asked us, why didn't you wait until after the holidays, and my reply was always the same, "If I waited, I wouldn't have done it." Today I work out three to four times a week. My starting weight was 222 pounds. Now it is 192 and still dropping. I will never go back to my old habits again. I feel better than I ever felt before, more energy; sleep better, no heartburn or headaches, and no more Advil.
