Want to start your day with a hot, hearty and delicious breakfast? A bowl of steel cut oats flavored with apples and chai-inspired spices is the way to go. Steel cut oats have a great, non-mushy texture and reheat well, so if pressed for time, you can make them the night before.

1 cup water
1/4 cup steel cut oats
1/2 cup diced apple
2 tablespoons raisins
1/2 tablespoon ground flax seeds
1/2 teaspoon alcohol-free vanilla extract or pure vanilla bean powder
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon cardamom
1/8 teaspoon cloves
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg

In a saucepan, bring water to a boil and stir in all ingredients. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 12-15 minutes or until oats are tender and water is absorbed, stirring occasionally.

Note: If you are short on time in the morning, this can be made the night before. Reheat before serving.

I believe a link for the vanilla bean powder (so much better than the extract) was inadvertently omitted.  Here it is:

It would help to have the servings this makes. I assume it is for one.

Just made this for breakfast and wow. So flavorful and filling. Subbed 2 chopped dates for the raisins & almond milk for the water. Very happy with this breakfast. Will follow it with a green peppermint tea. YUM.
