Can you puree the dates with the oranges and all together to cook with the cranberry?

This is my Mom's recipe from her mom (1930) with very small amount of sugar, not dates,  put though a course food grinder.  They were so frugal I believe it was 1 tbsp sugar, and used part fresh orange rind.  added nuts if had them.   It is outrageously good, forget the cooked ones.

Re Dates.  You can blend them “dry” or soaked in hot water first.

Try soaking your dates and blend using the soaking liquid.

I am also interested in using this recipe but am confused as to how to blend the dates also?!  Will they blend dry?

I believe I once put some of the orange mixture in the blender with the dates.  It turned out okay, because those dates need that moisture to liquify or to chop very fine.

Do you put the dates into the blender dry while the oranges and cranberries are cooking? How do you blend them that way?

Thanks so much - I plan to make this for Thanksgiving!

I have a question about this recipe.  I have used the dried dates and it is AMAZING; however, I would like to try it with aprictos.  Are the apricots dried or fresh?

Great cranberry sauce. Everyone liked it, they didn't miss the sugar. Great tasting. Will do this one again.

Wonderful to enjoy a healthy cranberry sauce withOUT sugar! I followed the recipe, blending the walnuts in along with the dates so they're dispersed throughout the sauce. Tastes fantastic. This will become an often-used recipe in my family.

Great recipe! I didn't use the walnuts but added a few pecans on the side. Added a little nutmeg and cooked a bay leave with it.
