Tim decided to take care of his health after a physical exam revealed serious health problems, lost 35 pounds and is off meds
For many years I chose not to think about the ramifications of chronic obesity on my health and life expectancy. The two real wakeup calls for me were my annual physical exam shortly after my 50th birthday, and my father’s serious illness. On the day of my physical examination, I weighed 274 pounds, and was prescribed medications for high cholesterol, hypertension and pre-diabetes. Just a few months later, my father was diagnosed with bladder cancer and other serious illnesses, all of which could be attributed to a lifetime of poor eating choices and a sedentary lifestyle. Since we are physiologically identical, it was like a visit from the future for me.
I lost a substantial amount of weight over the next two years (by following a mostly-vegetarian lifestyle), but didn’t improve “my numbers” significantly, since that vegetarian lifestyle allowed me to continue with daily pizza, baked goods, cheeses and desserts. Within two weeks of beginning the Eat To Live program, I felt noticeably better, which has been a major motivator for me to continue. Through a lifestyle which focuses on my health rather than on my weight, I lost 35 pounds and have been able to maintain an optimal weight and have brought hypertension, glucose and cholesterol into a normal range, with no medications.
