Obese and unhappy since childhood, Abhijit's lost 75 pounds and couldn't be happier
Information is the key to weight loss. Losing weight and maintaining health is a mind game. Once you have the right motivation and the correct information, you can gain sustained weight loss and enduring great health.
I was obese since childhood. Twenty seven years of pain, suffering and a broken heart. From my early years, I was never able to fit into readymade clothes, mingle with friends, or gain respect among family. People laughed at the amount of food I ate. I used overeating as a way to entertain and please others. It all starts with what we learn as children about food. My weekly meals generally contained five to six servings of animal products. Chicken was the main dish in our home, coupled with high calorie sweet Indian dishes.
After college, I started working for an IT firm. My life became very sedentary, and, additionally, I developed a drinking problem. I gained 30 pounds in one year and alcohol was taking control of my life. I moved to New York to work on my Master's degree. I was determined to take care of my health this time. I did a bit of jogging and my idea of eating right was Subways, Chipotles and salads with a pound of boiled or roasted chicken with added dressing. I began a job where our food expenses were covered by the company while we were travelling on business. I ate a lot of pizzas, burgers, tacos, and Indian buffet lunches. By the fall of 2011, my weight was 270 pounds! I lost all hope.
The impact of obesity was more mental than physical for me. I couldn’t think clearly and be objective at work or solve problems from a practical perspective. It was a cyclical process, I got depressed because I ate wrong and then I ate wrong because I was depressed.
Luckily, I was browsing through the documentaries section on Netflix and watched the Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead documentary. I began making changes and lost 45 pounds and gained my health back. I read Eat To Live, bought two copies to send to my family in India and joined Dr. Fuhrman's Membership. It is six months since I started my weight loss journey. I have lost 75 pounds! It is a new me! I can fit into a size 32. I have never looked better than I do right now.
