Many individuals who follow the Nutritarian diet write to Dr. Fuhrman about their success. Keep in mind that results vary from person to person. As always, consult your physician if you have a medical history and/or condition that may warrant individual recommendations.
When diagnosed with diabetes David began following The End of Diabetes; lost 45 pounds and is symptom free
When diagnosed in September 2014 with diabetes I was shocked and scared. I went from the clinic to a department store where I found The End of Diabetes and started reading it. My wife and I then went to the fridge, discarded all the "bad" stuff, and went shopping for all the "good" stuff and I started adhering to Dr. Fuhrman's advice.
The weight started coming off, and I felt better and better .It is now a year and a half since original diagnosis, and I had my one year checkup several months ago. My weight is now 240 or less, down from 285 pounds, and my numbers are good. A1C was exactly the same as when I went at the 3 month mark; 5.9. I have been asymptomatic for over a year now. This diet style works. That's the bottom line. We have found creative recipes that we genuinely enjoy, and I am not hungry throughout the day.
Recently, a friend asked me about the weight loss, and asked if it was a diet. I said that it was a complete life change. I heartily agree that it is far better to short-circuit the disease itself rather than managing a poor diet and all the complications with more medicine; that is no way to live.
People ask what my weight goal is, and I tell them it is up to my body. I am going to eat healthy, nutrient dense foods. I will let my body go where it wants. Right now that is weight loss.
A word of advice: Before starting make sure you are ready to get some new clothes. My pants are falling off (and I am too old to pull off the saggy pants look). Thank you Dr. Fuhrman for the great advice in your book!
