Many individuals who follow the Nutritarian diet write to Dr. Fuhrman about their success. Keep in mind that results vary from person to person. As always, consult your physician if you have a medical history and/or condition that may warrant individual recommendations.
Anthony lost 45 pounds, reduced his medications and is confident they will soon be eliminated
I started Eat to Live in January 2013. I had read the book a few weeks earlier and must admit found the concepts fascinating, but felt it was way too rigid for me to ever follow. I chalked up the read to experience and decided I would incorporate some of Dr. Fuhrman’s ideas with a low-carb diet I was planning to start soon. I wanted to start a diet in the New Year because it’s the New Year and I was feeling way out of sorts. I’m a diabetic and suffer from hypertension. These were supposedly controlled by medication, a lot of medication.
Life got complicated in late October when my home in Broad Channel, New York was severely damaged by Hurricane Sandy. The flood waters surged into my home destroying floors, walls, appliances and furniture. We lost heat, hot water and electricity. My home was rendered uninhabitable. In addition, I was grossly overweight, out of shape and depressed. I had to go!
I finally got around to visiting my primary care physician. I was shocked to learn that I weighed 295 pounds. I guess I should not have been so shocked considering how poorly I felt. My blood pressure was 180/98. That took me back a bit. Worst of all, my fasting blood glucose was 325. That was it. That was the wakeup call. I purchased The End of Diabetes, got a membership in the support center, joined the holiday challenge and started Eat to Live the next morning.
That was almost twelve weeks ago. So far I’ve lost 45 pounds. I’ve gone from taking four blood pressure medications to two. And one of those was just reduced by half. My diabetes meds have been reduced also and my blood glucose levels are now normal. I actually look forward to doctors’ visits now. Each visit brings a new reduction in medication.
So, is it a difficult diet? Well, it’s not easy, but the wealth of information provided by Dr. Fuhrman in his books and on the website sure makes it easier. After a relatively short period I became accustomed to eating vegetables, lots and lots of vegetables, fruits too. And they taste good. I think I never truly appreciated them before. Each day brings new challenges whether with my new eating plan or in the rebuilding of my home. The biggest difference is that I can now meet them with a new and better outlook than I have had in recent memory. I have the energy, vitality and mental clarity to move forward on all fronts. I plan to commit to at least another six weeks after the challenge is complete. I’m sure I’ll need more but, I’d rather take small steps right now. I am extremely pleased with the results to date and so are my doctors. I am looking forward to see what happens next!
Results may vary.
