My colon perforated from acute diverticulitis in 2007 requiring an emergency operation to save my life and stop the overwhelming sepsis. On admission I was 45 pounds overweight and had high cholesterol, hypertension, joint pain, and diabetes. After the operation and six-month recovery, I started researching what caused the diverticulitis and what I could do to prevent its return as well as get healthier generally.
Everything I read indicated food being the source of the illness, in particular a low fiber/high protein diet. I was the poster boy for said diet. I tried desperately to put together an ad hoc diet with enough fiber and it all seemed impossible until I saw Dr. Fuhrman on public TV. Since then I bought every Fuhrman book and have continually refined my diet over the months and years so that it is 100 percent Nutritarian.
I lost 60 pounds and now weigh what I did when I was 20 years old and feel like I did then. I play singles tennis three hours at a time on weekends and have more energy than anyone I know whatever their age (I'm 63). My joint pain is gone, metabolic disorders gone, hypertension gone, cholesterol normal, allergies reduced to being inconsequential.
My mood and anxiety have stabilized (absolutely unexpected) and my mind has sharpened. This transformation is so pronounced that many people I know have been attempting a Nutritarian lifestyle because of the startling change. Dr. Fuhrman saved my life and probably many others just among my friends. I don't know how to even begin to thank Dr. Fuhrman.
