Many individuals who follow the Nutritarian diet write to Dr. Fuhrman about their success. Keep in mind that results vary from person to person. As always, consult your physician if you have a medical history and/or condition that may warrant individual recommendations.
Mike lost 26 pounds, has normal glucose levels, and gave The End of Diabetes to his doctor to read
In 2003 I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I weighed 286 pounds and my A1C was 11. I followed standard dietary advice and lost 51 pounds. I was able to maintain the weight loss, but my A1C fluctuated between 7 and 9. In June, 2010 I joined a gym and did a very strenuous work out five days a week, with little to no change in blood sugar levels, and even with my doctor increasing my meds. I weighed 235 when I started and got down to 226 after one year. I also added bicycling in a big way, 700 plus miles in 2011 and over 1,000 miles in 2012.
When I went for my three month checkup in January, 2013 my doctor wanted to increase my medications. I asked for three months to turn things around. He agreed. I read Eat To Live and The End of Diabetes. At first I had a hard time believing the claims of weight loss and reduction in diabetic meds and reversal of diabetes. In March when I returned for my three month checkup I had lost 13 pounds, and weighed 213 pounds. I brought The End of Diabetes with me so the doctor could see the source of my weight loss. He agreed to read the book and I left it with him.
From March to July the doctor reduced my meds by three fourths. At the July checkup he reduced my meds to one half of a dose once a day at bedtime. As of July 21, 2013 I weigh 201 pounds with normal glucose levels.
