Very good. I used medium size bananas ... Next time I will add more of the other ingredients - if I used smaller bananas I think it would be less than 2 servings :). Updated 5/2015: Last several times I've made this it turned out beyond very good. I used almonds most recently and sprinkled coconut on top. Amazing. Thank you,

This is very good indeed. I like my chocolate sweeter, so I added a little pure maple syrup. I chose walnuts because I don't care for hazelnuts. I will be making this again.

Delicious and very creamy. It's a toss up for me as to which is better - this recipe or your banana walnut recipe. Both are great!

This was excellent. Good chocolate flavor. Nice consistency. I made it without hazelnuts as I am allergic (I know, bummer!). Try this ice cream.

I made this last night. It's great! I didn't want wait for it to freeze, so added 5 ice cubes to make a nice milk shake. Even my boyfriend liked it with just the date sweetener.

I find I don't need the sweetness of the dates when I use bananas that are really ripe.

I used one large ripe banana and added a handful of frozen blackberries. Substituted walnuts and cut the cacao down to one heaped teaspoon as it makes me speedy! Left out the milk and used a food processor. Enough for two parfait glass serves. Yum!

We had this for dessert tonight, and it was truly delicious, and felt decadent to eat! We loved it.
I still have trouble getting the hang of blending completely with my Vitamix. I still end up with "chunks." Any suggestions?

Perhaps soak the nuts for a few hours and then blend.

I thought the cocoa taste was a bit strong. I don't know why, but I'm not a huge fan. My husband hated it...but he doesn't really like chocolate ice cream anyway.

I have made this and banana walnut "ice cream" a half a dozen times.  I double or tripple the recipe as the hardest part is getting the last couple scoops out of the Vitamix. Chop the bananas a bit before freezing, they freeze faster and blend faster.  You can make variations.  Use different nuts.  Some pestatios and a bit of flavoring etc.  I also freeze portions in small individual containers - not quite as good, yet still great!

I freeze them also in small Containers. Then I put them in the microwave for 30 seconds on about 70% power and they come out just right!

Excellent for a chocolate fix! I made it exactly as written, but substituted walnuts. Next time, I'll soak the dates (chopped) and let the bananas thaw a few minutes to make it easier to blend. This is definitely a recipe I'll make again. My husband loved it too!

Excellent!  It satisfied my craving for a Wendy’s Frosty!  I added two Tbls of peanut butter to make it decadent!

11/10/23; this recipe is in the fall 2023 detox:  I used walnuts, and doubled the soy milk to 2/3 cup, then put it onto the Ninja Creamy cup and let it freeze overnight; then I ran it through the Creamy machine to make ice cream, not the soft serve version strait from the Vitamix.  Delicious!

Do I understand correctly.. you put back into the freezer after you blend to firm it up more? How long before it hardens too much?

I don’t freeze it. We eat it right away. With the frozen bananas, it’s firm enough for me. Love it. You might try the mango banana ice cream too. It’s equally wonderful

I never freeze it again. Mine always comes out like soft-serve or even a little harder - but I also do not use any liquid in it.  Just the bananas, chocolate and sometimes a blob of peanut butter.  It's plenty sweet with just the bananas.  One of my favorites.  I also sometimes add things like a little unsweetened coconut or some kind of nut, but just the chocolate and bananas are delicious on their own.  Oops, forgot, I also make it in my food processor, since I don't have a good blender.

This is one of my two favorite desserts, the other being Mango Banana Pecan ice cream. I’ve made this one with hazelnuts and pecans. They’re equally delicious. I love it that they’re both so good and also healthy. Wonderful!

I wonder if baked sweet potato would work? Or yam? (I still don't know what is the difference between the two, but you could experiment with different types).

This is a go-to recipe for me and somehow I just one-upped it today. I only had 1.5 frozen bananas so I added 3 small strawberries to make up for the missing 1/2 banana and WOW that added strawberry flavor really makes this nice cream pop. Highly recommend people try it!
