Marty's Story

Marty's Rheumatoid Arthritis is so much better, but she is saddened by the fact that so many RA patients don't know about Eat To Live

I just celebrated my 40th birthday. When I was thirty I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). I had a joint replacement in my finger and a joint fusion on one of my toes. I was on heavy steroids, and had tried every type of RA drug available. None of the drugs helped; they only made other symptoms appear.  A sweet neighbor told me about Dr. Fuhrman's book.  I was hesitant at the time, but I was worried I was going to lose the ability to move my elbows, so I decided to read  Eat To Live and started changing my family’s diet a little at a time.

I am crying as I write this because the book really has changed my life forever. I am able to exercise, work, be a mom and a wife, and serve in my local church, solely because of Dr. Fuhrman's book. I am so sad for people who have RA because it is so painful and also affects your entire family and friendships.

My life was transformed due to eating a plant-based diet. My ANA count at one time was 1:1616 and now is 1:80. I know that 1:40 is normal, but I am thrilled to have it that low.  When I occasionally have dairy, I always pay for it. My elbows, hands and feet always flair and hurt as a result. My ANA numbers go up and my Sed. rate gets high. I had two months where I was not eating well last year, and when I went to see the doctor for blood work, my ANA count had gone up to 1:800. I know the diet works. Blood work and how I feel proves it.  I am truly eternally grateful to Dr. Fuhrman and his wisdom.

Rheumatologists do not tell their patients about eating well. I asked my rheumatologist, when I was first diagnosed, if she thought I should change my diet and she said there would be no benefit. It is truly heart breaking to see so many sick people when diet has so much to do with why they are sick. I was totally ignorant and honestly thought I ate pretty well.  I had my steak or chicken or bacon (because I am a Texas girl) and my vegetable and my fruit at every meal, so I was certain I was eating the right way.

I feel responsible for some of Dr. Fuhrman's book sales. Everyone in my circle of friends asks me why I am doing better and I tell them about the book. At one time last year, I knew of twenty ladies reading his book because they saw the change in my health. I appreciate Dr. Fuhrman.
