Pineapple is the secret ingredient in this popular purple smoothie. It adds the perfect hint of tropical fruit flavor.

Ingredients:

1 banana
2 cups pineapple chunks, fresh or frozen
2 cups frozen blueberries
4 cups kale
1 tablespoon ground flax seed
1/2 - 1 cup water to blend

Instructions:

Blend all ingredients except water in a high-powered blender until smooth. Adjust water to achieve desired consistency.

Hey did everyone know that Moon won a prize from this recipe, and it is definately a prize winning smoothie. I make this everyday and eat it for dinner. It is to die for. It is so good, and my kids love and ask for it also. So you have to try it.

Hey you guys, I can't believe that I am the only one who has tried this or at least made a comment. You have to try this. I make it weekly now and it is such a treat. I love it.

Versions of this smoothie are my all time favorite meals for any Eat for Health food : )

I have been making versions of this smoothie every day I am home for over a year and I never get tired of it.

Instead of thinning with water, I simply let the frozen food thaw on the counter for 1 to 2 hours. The taste is more flavorful and intense without water. Or you can put the ingredients in a vita-mix in the fridge the night before then take it out the next morning and blend it immediately.

Also, I use mixed berries, mixed tropical fruits, and mixed greens including kale.
But the basic recipe stays the same. And now, that I like the taste of greens more than ever, I don't use the banana because it is a little too sweet . . . but for beginners the banana adds the extra sweetness many people love.

I used 1/2 c. chocolate soy milk instead of water. This smoothie is amazingly fabulous.

This was a great breakfast smoothie. It was very satisfying. It had amazing flavor. The blueberries and pineapple mixed well together.

I make a similar version of this most mornings - I change it depending what I have in the house - Usually don't use pinapple - I use mangos instead - and I have been using hemp seed (i think powder) which works really great. In addition, I add some soy milk for the creaminess.

My father-in-law has a blueberry bush so I get tons of blueberries to freeze, but when they are on sale, I buy them, put them in small rubbermaid containers and throw in the freezer -

Finally, I always try to add fresh ginger to any cold smoothie I make, as in Chinese medicine they believe too much cold food can cause problems with your spleen. Ginger is very warming and counteracts the "cold" of the smoothie. Just a thought if you are consuming smoothies everyday, especially in the winter when it is cold. Plus it gives it just a little "kick".

Great recipe to tweak daily!!

Wonderfully tasty, even for a newbie like me. I add a little extra pinapple and make it with 1/4 cup of pomegranit juice instead of water, and I use 1/2 a bannana instead of a whole one, but the recipe is good just the way it is too. The first day I made it, my 2 year old (on a mainly SAD diet at that point) wanted a sip so I let her have it. She sucked down almost half of it before she would give it back to me. So now she gets her own smoothie every morning and the older kids are starting to show some interest in trying some too. It has a beautiful purple color, which is great because I have trouble eating things off color even if it doesn't taste bad. (I'm working on that!)

I love the texture of this one. I didn't have two cups of blueberries so I used one cup blueberries and one cup strawberries. So delicious!

This smoothie recipe is fantastic =) thank you moon.
I made the recipe true to form the first time and loved it. And just today I made as shown below, adding protein powder since I do weight resistance training; it is just as good. I really think the pineapple is great with the greens. I find it very refreshing. I've listed the nutrition which IMHO is EXCELLENT

Ingredients:
109g banana
140g pineapple chunks, frozen
1 cup frozen blueberries
69g curly kale
1 tablespoon chia seeds
1/4 cup 100% all juice pomegranate
1 level scoop Garden of Life Raw Protein Powder
Water to thin

Calories 440; 81g carbs; 4g fat; 25g protein; 16g fiber; 25% iron

We tried it this morning and it was great! I used fresh pineapple and frozen blueberries. I think it was sweet enough to leave out the banana, but put it in for the potassium and it was really good. Nice one moon!

If you use purple kale it gets a much more intense purple color!  For a less sweet version instead of the banana and pineapple, I use an orange and a chunk of ginger.  I also use all frozen berries and so have the option to eat it with a spoon.. In addition to blueberries, I add a mix of strawberries, raspberries, and marion or blackberries,  All varieties are yummy!

this is a great name for what makes for a good breakfast -- for two people I use two cups ice water, 2 tablespoons of seeds (flax, hemp, or chia), two dropperfuls of EFA/DPA, 6-8 leaves of collard greens (or kale etc), three cups frozen berries.  It grows on you as does good health :-)

Why "ground" flax seeds?  Doesn't processing them in a high-powered blender ground them sufficiently?
