I had blood work done in July 2013. My weight was over 240 pounds (I am 6' tall.) and my blood pressure was 155 /95. That alone scared me. My general health was not good. I was tired all the time, I had sleep apnea, horrible anxiety, I felt like I was going to pass out at times, and had frequent chest pains. My blood test results came back. I did not expect the results, though in retrospect I should have. Total cholesterol 250, triglycerides 119, HDL 70, LDL 156.
I started doing some research on my own and decided to give up most meats. But I could not find guarantees on being able to lower my numbers back to normal by diet alone. Then my mom gave me Eat To Live. I was skeptical, but I could not refute anything Dr. Fuhrman said or the research he cited. It was just common sense. I decided to go the vegan Nutritarian route. I met with my physician and told him I wanted my numbers rechecked in two months. He gave me a patronizing smile and said, "how about a year? And then we can just put you on a statin." I told him I could do it in two months.
The first week of my new Nutritarian diet I could not believe the energy I was feeling. As the weeks went by I had to start exercising because I needed a release for all of the amazing energy. My irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) that I had suffered from for 15 years (I had been taking 4-6 Imodium every day) disappeared. I was afraid the fiber was going to really wreak havoc, but the exact opposite happened and I had to quit taking the Imodium. The first few weeks’ pounds were shedding off so easily. I laughed at the irony because I felt like I was eating like a pig with all of the delicious vegetables, beans, fruit, seeds, and nuts I was eating; foods I had so dearly missed from my childhood and feared because of my IBS. Now I was using mixing bowls to eat my salad, the main dish. I had my blood work done again after two months. My wife and I laughed and cheered when we got the results: Total cholesterol 173; triglycerides 82; HDL 63; LDL 94.
This is the real deal. After reading Eat To Live and Super Immunity I no longer fear disease and an early death as I had feared last year. I'm doing this for my wife and my boys. I will be around to see my children marry and have kids. I am so excited and thankful to have my good health back again. I just turned 44 and I felt like I was turning 24. Dr. Fuhrman literally saved my life. I will be forever grateful to him.
