Kenneth's Story


By losing 40 pounds and reversing his diabetes, Kenneth's doctor says he has added years to his life  

I have a history of high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels. My annual physical and accompanying blood tests revealed that I was now diabetic as well with an A1C of 7.3 and glucose level of 118. My doctor called and prescribed metformin. He said that I would start with metformin and he would most likely prescribe Insulin in the future.

This was a wake-up call for me. I researched type II diabetes and came across Dr. Fuhrman's The End of Diabetes book. I called my doctor's office and told him I did not wish to commence another drug regimen that I preferred to try to reverse the diabetes with diet. He knows that I am a field service engineer and travel each week, eating the majority of my meals in restaurants. So I had quite a bit of anxiety thinking how I can possibly do this while eating the majority of meals at restaurants. But as I read Dr. Fuhrman's book I understood more and more. I learned what to ask when dining out, learned which restaurants would make changes for me. For example, I'd order a pecan crusted chicken salad and ask them to hold the chicken and blue cheese while doubling up on the berries and nuts. I changed my average breakfast from eggs with bacon or sausage with a bagel to oatmeal with berries and nuts. Basically following the recommendations in the book.

After two months following the recommendations in The End of Diabetes I lost 40 pounds. My A1C is now 5.4.  My glucose is 86.  I was 240 pounds at 5ft.8in.and I'm now 199 pounds and still losing. I exercise only moderately following the recommendations in the book. I walk up and down the stairs in hotels. Take long walks, dance, things I enjoy.

I especially enjoy the comments I get when my colleagues see how much I am eating. I have not felt hungry using this diet-style. I eat at least a pound of raw veggies and a pound of fresh fruit each day. I enjoy the food very much. I don't miss the meats and dairy that I've given up. I feel more alert and alive. And I've drastically reduced my blood pressure medication. I was taking three pills a day and am now taking only one. And that one pill will soon be eliminated as my blood pressure is now averaging 112/62.  My goal is to lose another 20 pounds or until my ideal weight is found.

Thank you Dr. Fuhrman. I have never enjoyed such positive results with any diet that I have ever undertaken. My doctor is going to read your book. He's amazed at the results. And I have other doctor/friends that will be reading your book as well.

An update, I had my annual physical again last month (November 2014) with full blood work. My doctor was ecstatic on how perfect my blood levels are with no meds. I used to have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high triglycerides and type II diabetes. With no meds I'm now in perfect health. My doctor was interested in my blood levels since I changed my eating style over a year ago now. He now tells his other patients about my excellent health. He told me I've added years to my life. I am so grateful to Dr. Fuhrman.
