Through his medical practice, as well as his New York Times best-selling books and PBS specials, Dr. Fuhrman has helped thousands of people lose weight permanently and reverse chronic diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, autoimmune diseases and chronic pain syndromes, including migraines, using a nutrient-dense, plant-rich eating style that he calls the Nutritarian diet. Dr. Fuhrman is the President of the Nutritional Research Foundation, and is a frequent guest on The Dr. Oz Show, for which he serves on the medical advisory board.

Jay Benson, D.O. is a board-certified family physician and is the patient care director of Dr. Fuhrman Medical Associates. He has successfully used Dr. Fuhrman’s nutritional and natural approach to help patients lose weight and reverse diseases such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes. Dr. Benson works side-by-side with Dr. Fuhrman on nutritional research, lectures, and answering questions in the Ask the Doctor Community.
Dr. Benson graduated from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and finished his residency training at Hunterdon Medical Center in New Jersey. Dr. Benson lives with his wife and four children in Flemington, New Jersey.
Laurie Marbas, MD, MBA is a board certified family physician and a memebr of the College of Lifestyle Medicine. Dr. Marbas has used food as medicine successfully for many years including creating a lifestyle clinic in Western Colorado. Dr. Marbas is the Medical Director of Dr. Fuhrman's Health Oasis. In addition, Dr. Marbas has piloted a nutritarian study in a rural hospital in Colorado. She is the author of the Visual Mneumonics Series and Blueprint Clinical Procedures. Dr. Marbas is a veteran of the United States Air Force. Dr. Marbas answers questions in the Ask the Doctor Community.
Michael B. Mantz, M.D. is a board-certified psychiatrist, who graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and completed his residency in Psychiatry at the University of California at Irvine. Dr. Mantz has worked with and received training from Dr. Fuhrman for the past 15 years. Dr. Mantz is currently a faculty member of the Nutritarian Education Institute. He has also received training in western herbalism obtaining a Masters degree in Herbalism and is a Level II Practitioner of iREST a westernized form of meditative yoga traditionally called Yoga Nidra. He is the president of Mind-Body Integration & Healing in Santa Barbara, California (www.mindbodyintegrationandhealing.com), a progressive psychiatric practice utilizing nutrition, exercise, mindfulness-based psychotherapies, supplements, and judicious use of medications when needed.

Under Dr. Fuhrman’s direction, Ms. Carbone leads the Food Addiction Recovery Program (FAR Program). She is highly experienced in helping patients who are struggling with food addiction and other eating disorders. In conjunction with Dr. Fuhrman, Ms. Carbone developed a successful program that enhances patients’ results by teaching them life skills that enable them to maintain nutritional excellence and overcome food addictions. Previously, Ms. Carbone worked within a multi-disciplinary team to manage both inpatient and outpatient addiction services for adults and adolescents battling addictions.
Our Food Addiciton Recovery Counselor, Kathleen Renner, L.C.S.W. is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with significant clinical experience working in the mental health and substance abuse fields. After undergoing further training with Dr. Fuhrman and his clinical team, Ms. Renner has developed a specialty in food addiction counseling. She has worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings, motivating individuals to improve their health. Kathleen has worked with addiction in all age groups and in various settings, including individuals and groups.
Johanna “Jo-Jo” Stefano, M.S. is a Nutrition Coach and Personal Trainer. She holds a Master’s Degree in Nutrition and has completed Dr. Fuhrman’s advanced coursework in Nutritarian studies. Ms. Stefano is highly trained in Dr. Fuhrman’s Nutritarian approach making her well equipped to help you adopt this program into your current lifestyle. Ms. Stefano’s goal is to empower her clients to transform their relationship with food, their body, and their health. She guides and assists clients in attaining sustainable weight loss, reducing food cravings, increasing energy and managing stress. As a wife and working mother of two young children, Johanna understands the challenges of developing and maintaining a healthful and balanced lifestyle and is committed to help you overcome the obstacles in your path.
