Dear Dr. Fuhrman,
One of the best things about Dr. Fuhrman’s eating plan compared to so many other plans is that it’s a healthy plan.
It’s not only healthy, the food tastes yummy and you can eat lots of it. On most other plans sooner or later your energy level drops and you start feeling weak and shaky. It’s just the opposite with this plan. You have more energy.
Now that I am eating healthily, it’s easy to see how unhealthy I was eating before. One area I noticed a big change is that I tend not to fry foods or eat much fried food. I don’t eat many sandwiches and very little bread. I guess my taste buds have adapted to this new way of eating. I can enjoy a baked potato with no butter or sour cream just as much as I did previously with it on there. It’s good with salsa too! Baked sweet potatoes are wonderful without butter and brown sugar.
Also, I would suggest not skipping meals. If you get too hungry, you might just start eating anything and everything in sight.
For breakfast I usually have a bowl or oatmeal with a tablespoon of flax seed, raisins, walnuts, banana and blueberries or fresh strawberries on top. Yum! Yum!
It’s important to check your food labels for grams of sugar and grams of fat. Keep your eyes on those fat calories. They will break you if you let them.
Eat some kind of fresh fruit, lettuce, salad, vegetables, and don’t forget those beans everyday.
I personally tend not to over do it on the pastas, potatoes and packaged products. Another thing I try not to do is add sugar to things. Drink your water and get at least 30 minutes of some kind of vigorous exercise daily. It really makes a difference. I even notice a difference in my posture.
Early in the program, my number one goal was to choose to regain lost health and proper weight by losing excess fat, pounds and inches. Lowell also chose to be free of digestive problems.
After being on the plan for approximately a year and a half I think it’s safe to say it’s been successful. Praise the Lord! Neither of us takes any prescription drugs. I have reached my goal of 40 pounds and have lost 13 inches in my waist. Now my goal is to maintain and continue a healthy lifestyle.
Over a 15 month period, my total cholesterol went from 199 to 172, triglycerides from 138 to 69, HDL 35 to 40, LDL 136 to 118, TC/HDL 5.6 to 4.3, glucose 131 to 97, blood pressure 148/90 to 132/78 and weight 149.4 pounds to 117.6 pounds. When I started on the plan, my weight was 152 pounds. It’s now 112. My clothing size went from a 14 to a 4. I feel, and look, like a new person. Thank you for sharing this information with us! You can do this folks, if you choose to. If you have a bad day or a bad week don’t give up and quit, keep going. You will be glad you did.
