Anna's Story

Results may vary.

Anna and her husband are intent on learning how to be as healthy as possible;  he lost 36 pounds and is in better shape than his adult sons

Although we didn't know it, my husband's and my journey to superior health began when we moved his mother in our home to care for her in June, 2013.  She was 86 and diagnosed with late stage dementia.  My mother-in-law passed September, 2014 at a hospice facility. Aging and what was to come looked pretty bleak from our perspective.  I kept thinking, what is the point?

We were foodies, loved wine pairings, (we drank more in 2013-2014, self-medicating to deal with the stress of caring for someone that could do nothing for herself, unable to help stop the decline). Occasionally we ordered pizza or Chinese (one of us always had to be at the house when she lived with us), but we thought we were pretty healthy.  I had been strength training off and on since 2007 and had lived in Norway. Coming originally from the south, I learned what appropriate portions were during my time in Northern Norway.

In October 2014 Rick, my husband, suffered an "event".  He was 54 at the time and was in the hospital for two nights. We were unsure if he had suffered a cardiac event or a blood clot It was neither. We think it was a panic/anxiety attack.  During his hospital stay, I broke out with shingles on my face.  I began to realize there had to be a different way, but I was unsure what steps to take.  I was never a fad dieter and I didn't believe in pills to live a healthy life.  In January 2015 I saw the documentary Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead and saw Dr. Fuhrman. I Immediately looked him up and ordered Eat for Health.

March 1, 2015 we began as level 3 Nutritarians until a trip to Florida the first week of May.  After that we ate a little animal protein, but since June 2015, I have not had any animal protein.  I expect my husband plans to stop eating animal protein by the end of the year.  We don't drink alcohol, we walk our dogs every evening and go to the gym 3-4 days/week. Physical activity and eating nutrient dense foods is as much a part of our lives as brushing our teeth.

I quit my very stressful job and for now prioritize our health.  We purchased 20 acres one hour outside of Nashville and are in the process of building a house, and working with a landscape architect to plant fruit and nut trees and our vegetable garden.  I'm eyeing the adjacent land because I think soy, spinach, kale and other vegetables are going to be more in demand in the coming years, my new career.

Rick has lost 30 plus pounds and is in better shape than his 27 and 30-year-old sons.  We tell everyone about Dr. Fuhrman and nurturing one's immune system.  I'm not interested in SAD foods because they don't support a superior immune system.

Since reading Eat for Health, I've read Super Immunity (and a while ago preordered on Amazon The End of Heart Disease) as well as other books on the subject. I utilize your recipe database frequently and we use your DHA+EPA supplement.

Thank you Dr Fuhrman for yours and your team's hard and diligent work.  It has changed our lives.  We look forward with great excitement to continuing this journey and what lies ahead. .
