Karen's persistent psoriasis was stopped in it's tracks by following the Eat to Live Program!

Karen

Dear Dr. Fuhrman,

In January 2006, I developed psoriasis on my hands. At first, I didn’t realize what it was and ignored the problem. In April, I was diagnosed with plaque psoriasis and started a journey of finding the right dermatologist and right treatment program.

My hands continued to deteriorate. They were very scaly and would split open. It was not uncommon for me to have several band aids on my hands. In early 2007, the cuts on my hands became infected several times, and my hands were very swollen and painful. I was put on antibiotics to treat the infection. During that time, the dermatologist explained I had a severe case of psoriasis and suggested I start taking a chemotherapy drug. I didn’t want to go down that path, so I developed my own treatment program. I used prescription creams twice a day, as directed by the doctor, and added additional moisturizing. At night, I applied Bag Balm to my hands and covered them with cotton gloves. Several times during the day, I applied moisturizer and covered my hands with vinyl gloves. I would leave the gloves on for an hour or so. I stayed with this routine for several months and was finally able to give up the bag balm and vinyl gloves. I was also able to reduce the medication to one dose a day. I could never miss a day with the medication. If I missed a day, my hands would start to split open again.

A couple of months ago, I heard Dr. Oz interview Dr. Fuhrman on his radio program. I was fascinated when I heard Dr. Fuhrman comment that diet can improve autoimmune diseases. I picked up Eat To Live and read it cover to cover. I wanted to try the diet, but I was afraid that I would not stick with the plan long enough to see results. Finally, I decided to give it a shot. I switched to a plant-based diet. Two days later, my hands looked incredible! By the third day, I was off the medication!! My hands still have a tendency to get quite dry, and I'm afraid they will begin to split open again. So, I still use the medication about once every ten days.

After a couple of months, I realized I also have inverse psoriasis. Previously, I saw two different doctors, and both misdiagnosed my problem. I have had inverse psoriasis since March, 2006. I am still on the plant-based diet and have just recently noticed significant improvement with the inverse psoriasis.

I cannot tell you how happy I am with my health improvements. Thank you very much for your book.
