Many individuals who follow the Nutritarian diet write to Dr. Fuhrman about their success. Keep in mind that results vary from person to person. As always, consult your physician if you have a medical history and/or condition that may warrant individual recommendations.
Brad lost 40 pounds, lowered his cholesterol, and is more fit than he has been in years
I was 46 years old, 6 ft. tall and weighed 200 pounds. By many American standards I looked fine, but I had been a runner in college and knew that slowly I had drifted from young and in shape to middle aged and out of shape. I had never willing eaten a fruit or vegetable in my life and had enjoyed cheese, meat, and things like mayo at basically every meal (and had done for close to 30 years since I started college). I had my cholesterol taken in my 30's and without remembering the exact number, the overall cholesterol was well over 200 and the doctor mentioned that my numbers were not great for my age.
Late 2011 after climbing my stairs (five story walkup) I noticed my legs were sore for four days. A buddy suggested Dr. Fuhrman's book Eat To Live, and instead of just reading it, I just took notes on what was written. On the Eat To Live plan, I lost 25 pounds in three months and began jogging. The goal was never weight loss, just getting my health in order. Now two years later, l lost a total of 40 pounds. I took a cholesterol test and my LDL cholesterol is 78, my overall cholesterol is 140 and triglycerides are 49. I can't claim to be perfect, but have cut out all meat and dairy except fish which I eat at most twice a week. I eat mostly vegetables, beans, fruits; whole grains etc. and feel much better.
I have struggled with runner's injuries for two years, but have kept to it using the bike often when injured. Well last week I laced up at the 5th Avenue mile in NYC and clocked a 4:48 mile at age 48. There is no doubt that my diet for has been the key to regaining fitness. I've gone from a has-been to a guy who has beans! It was Dr. Fuhrman's book that gave me the kick that I needed. Keep up the good work!
