Many individuals who follow the Nutritarian diet write to Dr. Fuhrman about their success. Keep in mind that results vary from person to person. As always, consult your physician if you have a medical history and/or condition that may warrant individual recommendations.
After lowering his cholesterol and increasing his vitamin D level in just 3 months, Dan says the Nutritarian diet style is life saving
Over the past 10 years my total cholesterol ranged from about 195 to 215. In February 2014 my total cholesterol was 205. Because of this higher than normal cholesterol, a cardiologist wanted to put me on statins. I told him that a possible side effect was weak muscles, not a good thing for someone with a weaker than normal ventricular efficiency. I informed him that I wanted to switch to Dr. Fuhrman's diet first to reduce my weight (which could raise ventricular efficiency) and cholesterol, but to annually monitor the heart weakness since I did not know if I had had this condition for one year or sixty years.
Just three months into the program I had amazing results. My vitamin D level went from 9 (very low) to 30 (normal), my weight dropped to 165 pounds from 175 pounds, and my total cholesterol went from 205 to 168, triglycerides 109 to 86, LDL Cholesterol 131 (high) to 102.I like the idea that I can eat as many delicious vegetables as I want and do not feel starved. Sometimes I find myself mindlessly snacking too much on nuts, but not from hunger. My main challenge is diversifying the flavors in my new diet to make up of the loss of added oil, butter, sugar, and salt, which I dropped over the course of only one week, cold turkey. However, I am making good progress with this challenge. I have no desire to return to my previous diet, and I frequently mention my success to my primary care provider, family, and friends. Thank you so very much. I consider changing to Dr. Fuhrman's diet a major life-saving event.
